Det Kempke was born in 1963. From 1985 to 1990 he studied photography at the University of Applied Siences and Arts in Dortmund and graduated with a degree in foto and film design. He has been a freelance photographer since 1990 working in New York, London, Paris and all over Germany of course. Since 2010 he developed his work into the field of film and started working as a director and DoP. Det Kempke's images always tell a story and his scenic design can either be pure or very lavish. In his work, he uses modern technologies such a CGI. Det currently lives in Hamburg.
