"A saltwater croc (aka Salty) moves stealthily through the Marlgu Billabong at Parry’s Lagoon Nature Reserve, near Wyndam. We visited the Lagoon early morning in late May last year in the big hope of seeing a salty, which was high on our bucket-list. But a local birdwatcher there that morning stymied our hopes by letting us know she hadn’t seen any crocs in the billabong for the past week. After only about 15mins, my GF spotted through her binoculars two beady eyes about 200m away, which slowly dipped up and down in the still water. She was pretty sure it was a salty, and then when it ever so slowly swum towards us, we (quietly) squealed will delight. Such a buzz to see one of these magnificent animals in the wild. I love the way the salty’s eyes are glowing from the golden sunrise (and notice it’s also carrying some billabong weeds on its back for that extra bit of camouflage).\r\n\r\nOn Kulin people’s land."
