"Pride Brown And Black People Of Colour"
"From our recent series on Dan Quasar\'s Progress Pride Flag. We chose to represent each color of the flag though people and cloth with a long exposure creating the blurred effect. \r\n\r\nThe exhibit is on display at Gallery.4 inside Urban House Mbombela until the end of June. \r\n\r\nMUA: Michelle Raath\r\n© Geran Raath\r\n\r\nPride Brown & Black, People of Colour\r\n\r\n“You may shoot me with your words,\r\nYou may cut me with your eyes,\r\nYou may kill me with your hatefulness,\r\nBut still, like air, I’ll rise.\r\nDoes my sexiness upset you?\r\nDoes it come as a surprise\r\nThat I dance like I’ve got diamonds\r\nAt the meeting of my thighs?\r\nOut of the huts of history’s shame\r\nI rise\r\nUp from a past that’s rooted in pain\r\nI rise\r\nI’m a black ocean, leaping and wide,\r\nWelling and swelling I bear in the tide.”\r\n- Still I Rise - Maya Angelou\r\n\r\nWe wanted to express the angst and struggle that has been ongoing for people of colour. Our model, a self taught dancer, embodied this theme beautifully with his elegant yet powerful movements."
