"This image was featured in the 2000 John Kobal Photographic Portrait Prize. It was exhibited at London's National Portrait Gallery and was given the center spot on the wall, flanked by 2 images on either side, all of which were photographed by one of my photographer idols: Nadav Kander.
It took me about 2 years to work up the courage to speak to the model, Ken, who I felt rather intimidated by prior to our first conversation. Still assisting and car-less at the time, I managed to borrow one of my bosses vehicles so I coud drive Ken to the location. When the image made it into the gallery, Ken became a recognisable figure in his East London neighbourhood of Stoke Newington. 8 years later he would be chauffeured to a high end Knightsbridge gallery in a Bentley Arnage to pose - once again - next to a portrait of himself. This time holding hands with an Icelandic Supermodel."
