"In the summer of 2014 I discovered a Common Cuckoo chick on a construction site in Amsterdam. Cuckoos are brood parasites and the mother of this chick had laid her egg in the nest of an Eurasian reed warbler. The photo shows a feeding moment, the poor reed warbler almost disappears in the much bigger mouth of its adoptive chick. Nevertheless, the brood-parasited parents never give up. They seem to be convinced that this really is their offspring and they raise it without restraint. Such a strange twist of nature."
