Nicole was born and raised in Post- Apartheid South Africa; however, she has also been heavily influenced by her European family heritage and culture.
Her exposure to both Western culture as well as the diverse South African culture is what has inspired her as an artist to explore the unique relationships that they share.
The educational literature she was exposed to was focussed on the racial inferiority and cultural tensions between "Black" and "White" during Apartheid and the Post-Apartheid sentiment and tensions that still exist between the various races within South Africa. Identity politics has been filtered through the country causing a major social and racial divide.
Due to her background she has always been sensitive, aware and intrigued by the social dynamic between the Western world and Africa. Her artworks embrace both culture, identity politics, social structures and how art and fashion combined can be used as a creative voice. Her work challenges traditional perceptions of beauty and leans towards the unusual, using various cultural undertones.
Her main medium of art is fine art photography and the artistic representation of other art mediums. Key artworks use a combination of photography prints with mixed media application of material to create 3-dimension to the artworks. Her subjects often become one with the material she uses to reflect her topic.
