"Captivate.\r\nCarnations are Januarys official birth flowers.\r\n\r\nThey are one of our oldest cultivated flowers dating back around 2000 years in Greek history. Discovered by Theophrastus, one of the oldest known botanists.\r\nCarnationations are known as the flowers of the Gods and are associated with devotion, fascination, distinction and love.\r\n\r\nCarnations are linked in mythology to the Goddess Diana who fell in love with a shepherd who did not reciprocate her feelings. Spurned, she became enraged and plucked his eyes out, discarding his body on the ground and Carnations sprouted from his remains.\r\n\r\nThey are also mentioned in Christian tales, where it is reported that the Virgin Mary was weeping on seeing Jesus carrying his cross to his crucification. Her tears were said to cause Carnations to bloom.
