Gianni Oliva (born in Torino in 1964) currently lives and works in Torino. Artist and professional Photographer, has been active since 1985. Oliva started working with advertising campaigns for prestigious Italian brands, companies, galleries as well as renowned Italian and international magazines. Over the years he was drawn by the charm of foreign cultures and his gaze gradually turned to people, women, men from ancient cultures rich in history. The photographer’s trade drew him to research and travel worldwide. He learned the art of portraiture from masters like Dorothea Lange, JeanLoup Sieff, Steve McCurry and Natchwey, and focused on portraits. Many of the pictures he took in Lithuania (2008), India (2014/15), Patagonia (2017), and Cuba (2015) have featured in exhibitions in galleries and museums. Portraits representing “the truth of the moment”. Gianni Oliva is to be explored through the inebriating colors of his images, and the almost surreal, metaphysical black and white of his work, revealing a world floating between never-ending research and ever-changing truth.
